Zambaali Edges Closer to NUP Ticket After “Kaana Kambaata” Steps Down

The political landscape in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District, is taking a new turn as longtime political mobilizer John Bosco Sserunkuuma, popularly known as Kaana Kambaata, officially withdraws from the 2026 parliamentary race to focus on contesting for the mayoral seat.

Sserunkuuma’s decision clears the path for Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa, a former NBS Television news anchor and emerging political figure, who now appears to be the leading contender for the National Unity Platform (NUP) parliamentary flag in the area.

In a statement on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Zambaali expressed both respect for Sserunkuuma’s decision and renewed commitment to his campaign:

“Dear comrades, supporters, and fellow Ugandans, I have received news that John Bosco Sserunkuuma has officially withdrawn from the parliamentary race of Nansana Municipality opting instead to seek the mayoral seat.

While we respect every individual’s choice to serve in the position they feel called to, our mission remains the same: to secure a voice for our people in Parliament and to advance the values of justice, freedom, and equal opportunity under the banner of the @NUP_Ug National Unity Platform. At the end of the day, we may take different paths, but we share one goal: a better, more just Uganda. Let’s continue to engage in politics of principle and purpose. The people’s power cannot be silenced, and our momentum cannot be stopped.”

Zambaali, known for his articulate communication and advocacy for social justice, has increasingly gained the trust of voters. His political appeal is further strengthened by his media background and the NUP’s strong grassroots network in Nansana.

Meanwhile, Sserunkuuma’s pivot to the mayoral race sets up another competitive contest against Hamuza Kasozi, a notable figure in NUP’s municipal leadership. Both men are expected to mount vigorous campaigns ahead of the party primaries.

Nansana Municipality is widely recognized for its high voter engagement and strong support for opposition politics, making it a key battleground in shaping NUP’s 2026 electoral representation.
