Ukraine Pushes Counteroffensive as Russia Strikes Key Grain Port

Kyiv / Global – Ukrainian forces have launched intensified counteroffensives in eastern regions while Russian forces conducted air and missile strikes on the Odesa port, one of Ukraine’s primary export hubs for grain.

Analysts warn that disruption of grain exports could exacerbate food insecurity worldwide, especially in countries dependent on Ukrainian wheat and maize. The UN has called for urgent measures to secure export corridors and ensure humanitarian access.

The conflict continues to generate civilian casualties and displacement, with over 7 million Ukrainians internally displaced and millions more seeking refuge abroad.

Why It Matters:
Global food supply chains are highly sensitive to Ukraine’s conflict. Any sustained disruption can spike food prices, impacting vulnerable populations worldwide, including in Africa and the Middle East.
