Ugandans’ Concerns Shift: Health, Hunger, Inequality Rise to the Fore

Kampala, Uganda — While unemployment and cost of living remain pressing issues, a new survey shows that health services, hunger, and inequality are climbing rapidly among Ugandans’ top concerns.

The Twaweza “Sauti za Wananchi” survey, conducted nationwide, indicates that more households are worried about healthcare access and the rising gap between rich and poor.

“We are seeing a diversification of public concerns. Inflation is easing slightly, but people now emphasize systemic problems like inequality and corruption,” said Twaweza researcher Joan Atim.

Highlights:

43% of Ugandans list healthcare as their top concern (up from 28% last year).

Hunger and food insecurity are rising, especially in northern and eastern regions.

Corruption remains a strong secondary concern.

The survey suggests government social programs and anti-corruption efforts will be key electoral issues heading into 2026.
