Ugandan-Born Cleric Consecrated as Bishop in the U.S.

Rev. Simon Peter Engurait, a Ugandan-born priest, has been consecrated as the sixth Bishop of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux in Louisiana, U.S.

The consecration ceremony at Nicholls State University drew thousands of worshippers and was presided over by Archbishop Gregory Michael Aymond.

Ugandans in the diaspora hailed Engurait’s appointment as a “proud moment of representation.”
