Ugandan Architects Warn of ‘Quacks’ Amid Building Safety Crisis

Kampala — The Uganda Society of Architects has raised alarm over a surge in unregistered and unqualified practitioners in the construction industry, linking them to a string of fatal building collapses in recent months.

Speaking ahead of the Sustainable Architecture and the Creative Economy Symposium set for September 11 at Sheraton Kampala, the association urged the public to seek licensed professionals to safeguard lives and property.

“The creative economy cannot thrive when safety is compromised,” said association president Andrew Kaggwa. “We must root out quackery and build responsibly.”

The symposium will bring together regional and international experts to discuss sustainable design, urban safety, and architecture’s role in fueling Uganda’s creative industries.
