Uganda Launches Southern Africa Tourism Roadshow to Boost Regional Travel & Market Access

Johannesburg / Kampala

The Uganda High Commission in Pretoria today launched a multi-city Southern Africa Tourism Roadshow, aimed at strengthening regional travel ties and positioning Uganda as a prime destination for southern African tourists. The campaign kicks off in Johannesburg and will extend to Durban, Cape Town, Gaborone, Windhoek, and Harare over the coming week.

The initiative has drawn travel boards, tour operators, media, and private-sector stakeholders into business-to-business workshops, cultural showcases, and networking sessions. According to Uganda’s High Commissioner, Southern Africa represents one of the fastest-growing markets for travellers seeking unique experiences in wildlife, adventure, and multi-destination tours — making the roadshow a strategic push to tap into this growth.

Tourism stakeholders are optimistic: with Uganda’s government recently allocating significant budget to tourism development, infrastructure upgrades, and marketing, this outreach could translate into increased visitor numbers, foreign exchange inflows, and job creation — especially ahead of major regional events and global interest in African safari destinations.

Why it matters:
Tourism offers a reliable path to foreign exchange earnings, employment, and regional integration. By strengthening intra-Africa travel links, Uganda could reduce dependence on distant Western markets, build new partnerships, and spread economic benefits more broadly across communities.

What to watch for:

Bookings and travel-trade deals emerging from the roadshow.

Uptake of new routes, package tours, and increased regional flights.

Impact on employment in hospitality, guiding, transport, and allied services.

How the initiative translates into foreign-exchange earnings and benefits to local communities.
