Uganda Journalists Association condemns Parliament for blocking NTV Uganda journalists

Kampala, Uganda
The Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) has sharply criticised the Parliament of Uganda after journalists from Nation Media Group (which operates NTV Uganda) were reportedly denied access to parliamentary proceedings on Tuesday October 28 2025.

According to the UJA, security officers at Parliament stripped the accreditation cards of the NTV crew and denied their entry without any formal explanation. The incident, UJA terms it, is a “blatant attempt to muzzle media freedom and silence independent journalism.”
In response, the UJA demanded that Parliament immediately lift the ban and issue a formal clarification, warning that further action is forthcoming if no remedy is enacted. The association underlined that “freedom of the press is not negotiable.”
The incident raises concerns about media access, transparency of parliamentary processes, and the broader state of press freedoms in Uganda’s democratic governance.
Why it matters:

Local governance and democracy: Access to Parliament for media is a key transparency measure.

Impact on media: Restricting journalists may undermine independent reporting, public accountability.
