Uganda Cranes Roar Back to Life with 3-0 Win Over Guinea
Under the floodlights and before a roaring home crowd, the Uganda Cranes reignited their CHAN 2024 campaign with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Guinea, keeping their knockout hopes alive.
Coming off a bruising 3-0 loss to Algeria in their opener, the Cranes needed a response and they delivered. Reagan Mpande rose highest in the 35th minute to power home a header, setting the tone for a night of dominance.
Allan Okello doubled the advantage midway through the second half, calmly slotting a penalty in the 62nd minute. Minutes later, the stadium erupted again but this time in relief when a Guinea penalty was overturned after a VAR check.
KCCA FC’s Ivan Ahimbibwe sealed the win with a composed strike late on, sending the stands into a frenzy and firmly putting the game to bed.
With two matches played, Uganda sits second in Group C on 3 points, awaiting the result of Monday’s South Africa vs Niger clash to determine their path forward.
From the disappointment of Algiers to the jubilation at Namboole, the Cranes have signalled they’re not done yet.
