Uganda Civil Aviation Probes Airline Disruptions Amid Regional Flight Chaos

Kampala, Uganda

Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has launched an official investigation into recent flight disruptions affecting Uganda Airlines services, as thousands of passengers across East and Southern Africa continue to face delays and cancellations. Addressing stakeholders at a press engagement, UCAA Director General Fred Bamwesigye confirmed that the authority is examining operational issues that have caused inconvenience to travellers, and vowed authorities will ensure accountability and improved reliability. This move comes as numerous carriers, including Precision Air, Air Tanzania, Ethiopian Airlines, and others, reported significant flight disruptions across major hubs such as Zanzibar, Nairobi, Dar es Salaam and Cape Town, which industry analysts link to regional air traffic congestion and airline scheduling pressures.

The timing of the inquiry is particularly sensitive, given the upcoming festive and electoral season when travel demand typically surges. UCAA has pledged to release interim findings within days, and is engaging closely with airline operators, ground handling firms and air traffic control to identify lapses and systemic bottlenecks.

Why It Matters
Airline disruptions hurt business, tourism and personal travel plans, and expose weaknesses in aviation management at a time when East Africa’s travel sector is under strain. For Uganda, ensuring smooth airline operations is critical for maintaining confidence in national carriers and for strengthening the country’s position as a regional hub.

What to Watch For
Passengers should monitor airline advisories and flight status updates as UCAA’s investigation unfolds. Any changes to schedules, regulatory enforcement actions, or compensation frameworks for affected consumers will be key developments through the week.
