Three Women, Including LC I Vice Chairperson, Injured in Buziga Sauna Explosion
Police in Kampala are investigating a massive explosion that tore through the sauna of Buziga Country Resort on Sunday evening, leaving three women seriously injured.
The incident occurred at around 8:30 pm on August 24, 2025, at the resort located in Upper Buziga Zone, Makindye Division. The blast caused extensive damage to the facility, with part of the structure collapsing, walls cracking, and debris scattering across the area.
The victims were identified as Hajjat Masitula, 69, Vice Chairperson LC I of Katuso Cell, who sustained severe burns on her back, chest, and lower body; Zahara Nakawesi Kasenene, 39, who suffered burns and a broken leg; and Mamaram Aisha, who sustained multiple severe burns.
The three were rushed to Kiruddu Hospital for emergency treatment, before two were referred to Nsambya and Mulago hospitals for specialized care.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the development, saying detectives from Kabalagala Police Station had secured the scene and launched investigations into suspected rash and neglect.
“The Police at Kabalagala are actively investigating an incident of suspected rash and neglect that resulted in a massive explosion at the sauna of Buziga Country Resort. The unfortunate incident left three female victims with serious injuries,” Owoyesigyire said.
He explained that preliminary findings showed the explosion was significant in nature, though its exact cause has not yet been established. Witness and victim statements have already been recorded.
“At this stage, no arrests have been made. The scene remains cordoned off for a thorough forensic examination, which is expected to provide more clarity on the cause of the explosion,” Owoyesigyire added.
Police have assured the public that inquiries are ongoing and pledged to provide regular updates as the investigation progresses. They also promised continued support for the victims and their families.
