Tanga Odoi’s Son Wins NRM Youth League Chair After Disputed Contest
Tanga Collins, son of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi, has been declared the new National Chairperson of the NRM Youth League.
The declaration followed a tense rerun election held on Thursday, September 18, where Collins swept to victory with 2,185 votes (68%), defeating his closest rival Brenda Kiconco, who garnered 1,017 votes (32%).
This outcome comes after weeks of contention. In the first round of voting on August 28, Collins had edged out Kiconco with 1,567 votes to 1,355. However, the results sparked chaos among sections of the youth delegates, prompting the Electoral Commission to cancel the process and call for fresh polls.
The latest round, described as decisive and conclusive, has now cemented Collins as the duly elected Youth League leader, closing a contentious chapter in the ruling party’s internal youth politics.
The election formed part of the NRM’s broader internal exercise to fill positions across its special organs ahead of the 2026 general elections.
