Speaker Among Orders Immediate Action on Mityana–Mubende–Kyegegwa–Kyenjojo Road
Parliament Speaker Anita Annet Among has called for urgent rehabilitation of the Mityana–Mubende–Kyegegwa–Kyenjojo road, which she described as being in a deplorable condition.
Among issued the directive during celebrations to mark the 30th coronation anniversary of Tooro King, Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, where she represented President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
She told the gathering that, despite being offered a helicopter by the President to ease her travel, she deliberately chose to drive along the road in order to assess its state personally.
“When His Excellency appointed me to represent him, he offered me his helicopter to facilitate my travel here. However, after learning about the poor condition of the Mityana–Mubende–Kyegegwa–Kyenjojo road, I decided to travel by road to see the situation for myself. It is clear that the road urgently needs rehabilitation,” she said.
Among revealed that she had already tasked the Ministry of Finance to urgently source funding for the works.
“I instructed the Minister of Finance, who was present with us, to secure the necessary funds within two weeks so that we can begin work on the road without further delay,” she added.
The Speaker stressed that government cannot afford to neglect major transport routes that connect regions and support economic activity, warning that such delays directly affect service delivery and livelihoods.
