Russia Launches Massive Overnight Assault on Ukraine

Dozens of civilians killed, infrastructure hit, as Kyiv appeals for international support.

Kyiv, Ukraine Russia launched one of its largest overnight attacks in months, firing over 50 missiles and nearly 500 drones across nine Ukrainian regions. At least five civilians died, and widespread damage to energy and transport infrastructure was reported.

Targets included Lviv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, and Odesa, with Lviv suffering severe residential destruction. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the assault as “deliberate terror against civilians” and renewed calls for advanced air-defense systems from Western allies.

Emergency teams worked overnight to extinguish fires and restore services, but power outages affected 50+ towns, and several rail lines were disrupted. The European Union and NATO denounced the attacks, with EU foreign chief Josep Borrell calling it a “war crime against civilians.”

Military analysts note this escalation signals a shift in Russian tactics, aiming to weaken Ukraine’s energy resilience ahead of winter. Ukraine claims 75% of the drones were intercepted, though the scale of the attack tested defenses.
