Police Dismantle Marijuana Network in Luweero, Intensify Hunt for Fugitive Ringleader

Luweero police have uncovered what they describe as a major marijuana cultivation and distribution ring, following an intelligence-led raid by the Savannah Region Flying Squad.

The operation, conducted in Kalasa Village, Makulubita Sub-county, targeted a residential house believed to have been turned into a hub for drying and packaging marijuana. Several rooms were reportedly filled with the illicit crop, which had been harvested from gardens in Kapeeka before being transported to the hideout.

Four suspects were arrested during the raid and are currently detained at Luweero Police Station. A female accomplice escaped during the operation, but security agencies say efforts are underway to trace her.

Police have since identified Titus Kigozi as the alleged mastermind of the network. He remains at large.

“We have intensified efforts to track and apprehend Kigozi, and operations to dismantle cultivation sites in Kapeeka and Makulubita are ongoing,” said ASP Sam Twiineamazima, the Savannah Regional Police PRO.

The exhibits recovered during the raid have been secured as investigations continue. Authorities have also called for increased community vigilance to help stamp out the drug trade.

“Community support is vital in eradicating drug-related crimes. We call upon residents to report suspicious activities,” Twiineamazima appealed.

The crackdown in Luweero is part of a broader police campaign against illegal drug cultivation and trafficking in central Uganda, with security officials warning that further arrests are expected.
