Pearl Bank Limited Partners with TotalEnergies Uganda to Power Digital Fuel Payments via Wendi Wallet

Kampala, Uganda

Ugandan motorists are set to enjoy faster, safer, and cash-free fuel payments following a new partnership between Pearl Bank Limited (formerly Post Bank Uganda) and TotalEnergies Uganda. The collaboration integrates Pearl Bank’s fintech innovation — the Wendi payment platform — with TotalEnergies’ national fuel station network, enabling customers to pay digitally using Wendi digital cards or wallets.

Driving Financial Inclusion through Everyday Payments

Announcing the partnership in Kampala, Pearl Bank Limited described the move as a milestone in its journey to expand access to convenient and inclusive digital financial services. The Wendi platform, a flagship digital innovation of Pearl Bank, allows users to open wallet accounts, send and receive money, save, pay bills, and now — purchase fuel digitally at TotalEnergies stations.

“We are thrilled to partner with TotalEnergies Uganda to introduce digital payments at fuel stations through the Wendi platform,” said Mr. Julius Kakeeto, Managing Director of Pearl Bank Limited. “This partnership aligns with our vision to make financial inclusion a daily reality, not just a banking concept.”

The Wendi digital card, linked to a customer’s Wendi wallet, works like a debit card but operates entirely in the digital space. Motorists can top up their wallets via mobile money or bank transfer and swipe or scan at participating TotalEnergies stations to pay for fuel, lubricants, and convenience-store items.

TotalEnergies Embraces Seamless, Smart Payments

For TotalEnergies Uganda, this partnership underscores its commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction.

“Our customers demand speed, reliability, and flexibility. Integrating Wendi payments at our service stations enhances convenience and safety for both customers and staff,” said Mr. Jean-Philippe Torres, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Uganda.

The integration will initially roll out in Kampala, Wakiso, and Entebbe before expanding to other regions. Stations will display Wendi signage and train attendants to guide customers through the digital payment process.

Why It Matters

Digital payment adoption in Uganda has accelerated rapidly in recent years, driven by mobile technology, fintech innovation, and government support for cashless transactions.
This partnership leverages Pearl Bank’s trusted financial base and TotalEnergies’ retail reach — providing customers an easy way to transact in one of the country’s most frequently used consumer categories: fuel.

Convenience: Pay without cash or traditional bank cards.

Speed: Digital transactions processed in seconds.

Security: All payments verified and encrypted through the Wendi platform.

Inclusivity: Wendi users include both banked and unbanked customers via mobile integration.

The Broader Vision

According to Pearl Bank, this initiative supports Uganda’s National Financial Inclusion Strategy (2023–2028) by expanding digital payment access to underserved communities. The bank has trained over 5,000 people in digital finance literacy through Wendi outreach programs in Kampala, Wakiso, and Mukono.

“Fuel is something nearly every Ugandan interacts with weekly — it’s the perfect on-ramp for digital financial adoption,” noted Ms. Aisha Nsubuga, Head of Digital Banking at Pearl Bank. “By partnering with a trusted brand like TotalEnergies, we are bridging the gap between financial technology and everyday life.”

As the rollout progresses, Pearl Bank and TotalEnergies plan to expand Wendi acceptance to cover fleet management accounts, corporate fuel cards, and loyalty programs, signaling the next phase of Uganda’s digital payments revolution.
