Pearl Bank Limited and TotalEnergies Uganda Launch Digital-Fuel Payment via Wendi Wallet

Kampala/Uganda

Pearl Bank Limited (formerly Post Bank Uganda) has on Friday 24th.October 2025 announced a strategic partnership with TotalEnergies Uganda to enable customers purchasing fuel at Total service stations to pay easily via digital cards on the Wendi payment platform.

Under the new arrangement, customers will be able to use digital cards issued via the bank’s fintech wallet platform – Wendi – to seamlessly pay for fuel at TotalEnergies service stations nationwide. The move is part of Pearl Bank’s drive to extend digital financial inclusion and simplify payments in the retail fuel sector.

What the partnership entails

Under the terms of the partnership:

TotalEnergies Uganda service stations will accept Wendi-based digital cards (and/or wallet transactions) from Pearl Bank customers when purchasing fuel and related services.

Pearl Bank will make it possible for its Wendi wallet users to link digital cards or wallet accounts for use specifically at TotalEnergies stations, streamlining the payment process.

The collaboration aims to bring convenience to motorists and fleet operators by reducing reliance on cash or traditional card payments, while also expanding the reach of digital payments in Uganda’s fuel retail sector.

Why it matters

This initiative aligns with both organisations’ strategic priorities:

For Pearl Bank, the Wendi wallet has already been central to its financial-inclusion efforts. The bank recently reported that Wendi has been trained to over 5,000 people in Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono as part of its rollout campaigns.

Fuel retailers and customers are increasingly embracing digital payments for speed, transparency and efficiency. By partnering with TotalEnergies, Pearl Bank taps into a high-volume retail context (fuel stations) which broadens the real-life use-case of its fintech platform.

For TotalEnergies Uganda, enabling digital payment options such as Wendi cards offers a modernised retail experience, reduces cash-handling risk, and supports Uganda’s national digital payments agenda.

Impact for customers

Customers of Pearl Bank who hold Wendi wallet accounts or digital cards will benefit from:

Convenience: paying for fuel at many TotalEnergies stations using a wallet or card rather than cash.

Speed: faster transactions at pumps and payment counters.

Access: non-banked or under-banked customers can use the wallet-based digital card option.

Digital record-keeping: Transactions are automatically recorded in the wallet/app, facilitating tracking and management.

Broader context & outlook

Pearl Bank (formerly PostBank) has been actively pushing its Wendi digital wallet platform. The wallet supports mobile onboarding, USSD (*229#) access, savings, group-savings tools, micro-loans and agent networks.
According to a recent FinScope Uganda survey, over 5.3 million Ugandans remain financially excluded — underlining the need for innovative digital financial-service models.
By linking the fintech wallet to a major retail network (fuel stations), Pearl Bank is advancing the “everyday-payments” use case of digital wallets — which is vital for adoption beyond simple peer-to-peer transfers.

The partnership is expected to roll out across all TotalEnergies Uganda service stations nationwide in the coming weeks/months (exact rollout schedule to be confirmed by both partners). Customers are advised to visit their nearest TotalEnergies station, ask for the Wendi payment card or wallet option, and activate it via the Pearl Bank/Wendi app or USSD code.

Quotes

“We are delighted to partner with TotalEnergies Uganda to bring the Wendi digital card payment option to fuel stations. This move underscores our commitment to financial inclusion and everyday-digital-payments,” said Priscilla, Head Communication and Marketing at Pearl Bank.
“At TotalEnergies, enhancing the customer experience and embracing modern payment solutions is key. Accepting Wendi cards and wallet payments is a clear step in that direction,” said a TotalEnergies Uganda representative.

Final Word

As the Ugandan economy continues to digitise, collaborations like this one — between a bank-led fintech wallet and a major retail/energy network — signal a shift towards convenience, inclusivity and modern financial-services access. For motorist, fleet operators and everyday payers at the pump, the ability to pay with a wallet-based digital card promises to be a welcome upgrade.
