NUP Inaugurates Eastern Uganda Headquarters in Iganga
The National Unity Platform (NUP) has expanded its political footprint with the launch of a new regional headquarters in Iganga Town, Busoga Sub-region.
Party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, presided over the event, flanked by his wife Barbie Itungo, deputy party president Dr. Lina Zedrig, secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya, spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi, deputy spokesperson Waiswa Mufumbiro, and several legislators including Betty Nambooze and Hillary Kiyaga.
Kyagulanyi revealed that the land was quietly acquired and developed over the past year without public knowledge. He said this was a deliberate strategy to avoid interference from security agencies.
“We purchased this land over a year ago and began construction. I am grateful that until this morning, nobody outside those who needed to know realized it was us. That is why the police came asking why we surprised them with this visit,” he remarked.
He added: “Had they known earlier, they would have done everything possible to frustrate us.”
The new office, according to Kyagulanyi, will play a central role in mobilization and coordination of NUP activities across Eastern Uganda.
“The Regional Headquarters will coordinate our revolutionary activities in the entire region. This is proof of our determination to build a party that will live beyond us,” he said.
One of the most notable moments came when Kyagulanyi spoke about former Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga, who has recently clashed with elements within the NRM.
“You call her Mama Busoga, I call her my Auntie. For us in NUP, we have no problems with her, and we warmly welcome her,” he declared, drawing applause from the crowd.
Bobi Wine praised party leaders and supporters for their “tireless” efforts in making the milestone possible. He stressed that the Iganga office is part of NUP’s long-term vision to consolidate grassroots structures and strengthen the party’s presence nationwide.
