NRM Delivers Two Million Signatures to EC in Support of Museveni’s 2026 Nomination

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) on Friday submitted more than two million signatures to the Electoral Commission (EC), formally endorsing President Yoweri Museveni as its presidential flagbearer for the 2026 general elections.

The handover at the EC headquarters in Kampala was led by the party’s Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, who was accompanied by senior officials and an energetic procession of party leaders and supporters.

“We have handed in more than two million signatures, and this is confirmation of the votes President Museveni is going to have. Already, we have deposited our votes with the Electoral Commission,” Todwong said, projecting confidence in the President’s national appeal.

He added that the massive response reflected the NRM’s organizational depth across the country, insisting it would translate into clear victories for Museveni and other party candidates in 2026.

Party officials emphasized that the exercise carried both legal and symbolic weight, presenting it as proof of loyalty to the NRM leadership and a commitment to sustaining Uganda’s political stability and development trajectory.

According to EC requirements, a presidential aspirant must collect at least 100 signatures from two-thirds of Uganda’s 146 districts—equivalent to 98 districts—to qualify for nomination.

By surpassing the benchmark with more than two million endorsements, the NRM has taken an early lead in preparations for the 2026 elections.

The Electoral Commission has fixed September 23–24, 2025, as the official nomination dates for presidential candidates.
