The National Youth Coordinator, Fiona Nakku, has rallied the youths across the country to mobilize 13 million votes in support of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Nakku made the remarks on 21st Sept 2025 while leading Bugisu youth leaders on a tour of the Bugisu Zonal Presidential Industrial Hub in Lukhonge Sub-county, Mbale District.
The hub offers hands-on vocational training in courses including carpentry, welding, hairdressing, leather processing, bakery, tailoring, and building and construction, all completed within six months.
Speaking to The Urban Gazette reporter, Nakku urged Trainees to mobilize support for the president at grassroots, noting that the hub is a clear demonstration of his commitment to youth empowerment.
“This time we are aiming at 13 million votes, and this can be achieved if we move together as young people in this country,” Nakku said.
Nakku commended President Museveni for creating opportunities that give youth practical skills for socio-economic transformation.
“Everyone is educated, but what next after your education? White-collar jobs are not enough to accommodate everyone in a country where 70% of the population are youth. These hubs are the answer to unemployment and empowerment,” she emphasized.
She noted that the president had promised to inject Ugx 50 million into Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs) in each district as startup capital for graduates of the industrial hubs.
The hub manager, Mr. Phillip Waniala, thanked President Museveni for equipping vulnerable youth with skills.
Waniala informed the Urban Gazette Reporter that, Many come here frustrated, having dropped out of school or never gone to school at all, but after six months, they leave ready to transform their lives. A tailor doesn’t need a degree, only skills and determination.
He appealed for continued government support to provide more facilities and expand the hub’s intake from 240 to at least 500 students per session.
Wilson Lukaye, the youth councillor for Mbale Industrial City Division, praised Nakku for being a trusted mobilizer, citing her ability to unite the youths across the country to speak, a skill demonstrated during her NRM female parliamentary campaigns.
He believes this will help the President achieve landslide victory in 2026.
Nakku recently launched her youth mobilization campaign shortly after being disqualified from the NRM primaries for the position of National Female Youth Member of Parliament.
