National Resistance Movement ramps up mobilisation in Bukedi ahead of 2026 campaign
Kampala ,Uganda
The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) is intensifying its mobilisation efforts in the Bukedi sub-region of Eastern Uganda in preparation for the upcoming 2026 general elections. According to regional reports, the campaign push is led by former FDC policy expert Patrick Godfrey Wakida, who is now contesting the Kabweri Constituency in Kibuku District on the NRM ticket.

The movement was officially flagged-off by the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, who urged grassroots NRM structures to mobilise for all flag-bearers and ensure strong support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. She said: “We have no one else to bank on to mobilise for the party here. You are our agents.”
This mobilisation drive is occurring against the backdrop of growing activity by opposition parties in the region, with the NRM seeking to pre-empt any erosion of its traditional support base. Observers suggest the strategy is ahead of President Museveni’s tour of the sub-region. Such tours typically involve pledges of infrastructure and social welfare promises.

Why it matters: Political mobilisation at the local level indicates the election cycle is well underway and that regional strong-holds will be key battlegrounds. Bukedi, with its mix of rural and peri-urban communities, could be a bellwether for party performance.
