Nakivubo Stadium to Host 2025 Masaza Cup Final
The Buganda Kingdom has confirmed that this year’s Masaza Cup final will be staged at the newly renovated Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on November 1, 2025.
The announcement was made by the Kingdom’s Sports Minister, Robert Serwanga, who expressed excitement at taking the competition’s climax to a venue with such deep historical roots.
“This year’s Masaza Cup final will be played at Nakivubo Stadium,” Serwanga said, emphasizing that the refurbished facility provides the ideal stage for the Kingdom’s most celebrated football tournament.
The decision marks a departure from recent tradition. In 2024, the final between Buddu and Kyaggwe was hosted at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, while in earlier years the competition’s finale was regularly held at Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
Serwanga explained that with Namboole still under construction, Nakivubo was a natural choice.
“Since Mandela National Stadium will be under construction during the time of our final, this year’s Masaza Cup Finals will be played at Hamz Stadium Nakivubo on 1st November 2025,” he noted.
The move is especially symbolic as Nakivubo—once the traditional home of Ugandan football—has recently undergone a modern transformation.
The Masaza Cup, which pits Buganda counties against one another, has evolved into one of Uganda’s premier sporting and cultural events, drawing passionate fans and massive crowds each year.
The two counties that reach the 2025 final will now have the honor of contesting the title in the heart of Kampala at Nakivubo.
