Makerere University Students Launch Into Huawei ICT Competition For 2025/26

Students at Makerere University’s College of Computing & Information Sciences have been invited to participate in the prestigious 2025/2026 Huawei ICT Competition 2025/2026 roadshow, aimed at identifying top talent in cloud-computing, networks, innovation and more.
The competition is structured in four tracks (Cloud, Computing, Network, Innovation) and offers fully-sponsored training, globally recognised certifications, internships and job opportunities.

By partnering with Huawei Technologies, the initiative seeks to raise the bar for technology education in Uganda, enable students to engage in practical solutions and position them for international opportunities in the tech sector.

Implications:

For Uganda’s burgeoning technology ecosystem, this competition offers domestic talent a gateway to global exposure and industry-grade credentials.

It signals that universities and private sector tech firms are collaborating more actively in Uganda, which may help narrow the skills gap.

For students, winning or participating can unlock career pathways otherwise difficult to access locally.

It may further boost Uganda’s ambitions to join the digital economy, create start-ups, scale innovation and attract investment.

The Makerere-Huawei competition is more than a one-off student event—it reflects a strategic shift in how Uganda’s education and technology sectors are aligning. For The Urban Gazette readers, it’s worth watching how many young Ugandans convert this opportunity into new ventures, jobs and exports.
