Makerere University hands over site for Lung Institute expansion — boost for medical research

Makerere University has formalised the handover of land for the expansion of a Lung Institute, a step that could strengthen Uganda’s capacity for respiratory disease research and clinical care.
The project signals growing investment in specialised medical research infrastructure and aims to support training, diagnosis and treatment of lung diseases — a critical area in the wake of recent respiratory health challenges. University and health sector stakeholders say the institute will also improve regional collaboration on pulmonary medicine.
