Katonga Police Officers Urged to Uphold Professionalism Ahead of Elections

As Uganda prepares for the next election cycle, the Police Chief Political Commissar, AIGP Ubaldo Bamunoba, has urged officers in the Katonga Region to commit themselves to professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights in order to safeguard both community trust and the credibility of the polls.

Speaking during his sensitization and ideological orientation tour on Wednesday evening, Bamunoba reminded officers that their role goes beyond routine policing to include guaranteeing a democratic environment.

“As we approach the election season, I remind you to ensure the process is free and fair for all Ugandans, in full alignment with the electoral roadmap,” he said.

The AIGP noted that public confidence in the Force depends on discipline and adherence to the rule of law.

“Our strength lies in professionalism, respect for the rule of law, and the protection of human rights. Our communities must feel safe, and this means moving away from armchair policing and being intentional in our work,” he told officers.

Bamunoba further underscored the need for officers to embody patriotism and a positive spirit in service delivery.

“I urge every officer to wear patriotism like a badge, to approach duties with a positive attitude, and to give special attention to vulnerable groups, especially women, children, and all Ugandans, when upholding human rights,” he said.

He insisted that customer care at stations, timely response to distress calls, and coordination with other security agencies were non-negotiable, adding that officers must remain accountable to the people they serve.

Bamunoba also linked police work to Uganda’s long-term development goals, urging officers to support government programs under Vision 2040.

The Katonga Region engagement is part of a broader campaign to reorient police officers across the country towards professionalism, community trust, and election preparedness.
