Kampala Hosts Real Estate & Innovation Expo: Affordable Housing in Focus
Kampala, Uganda
Housing affordability and resilient urban design will dominate conversations this weekend as the Real Estate & Innovation Expo kicks off at Kati Kati Grounds, Lugogo.
Organized by the Ministry of Lands, Housing & Urban Development in partnership with Douglas Events Ltd., the expo runs from September 26–28 under the theme: “Resilient by Design, Affordable by Intent: Shaping the Future of Real Estate.”
Government officials, property developers, innovators, financiers, and the public are expected to explore ways to bridge Uganda’s growing housing deficit, estimated at over 2.4 million units nationwide.
Key highlights include:
Affordable housing models — modular and low-cost construction methods.
Green building innovations — sustainable designs to cut energy costs.
Financing solutions — new mortgage products and micro-finance options.
Tech in housing — smart homes and IoT for urban living.
Officials say the expo will give young innovators a platform to showcase prototypes that could disrupt Kampala’s real estate market. For home seekers, it offers a one-stop hub to meet developers, compare financing options, and learn about sustainable housing trends.
Industry players argue that Kampala’s rapid urbanization has outpaced infrastructure and affordable housing supply, pushing many into informal settlements. The expo, they say, is a chance to realign policy, investment, and innovation.
“We can’t talk about a smart city if most residents can’t afford a safe roof over their heads,” one housing expert told The Urban Gazette.
