Greener Deliveries Hit Kampala Streets

Jumia Uganda and Spiro Roll-out of Electric Bikes for City Deliveries in Kampala

Kampala/Uganda

In a major move for sustainable urban logistics, Jumia Uganda has partnered with e-mobility company Spiro to introduce a fleet of electric bikes (e-bikes) for its delivery operations in Kampala. The initiative replaces part of its fuel-based fleet, aligning with its ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) commitments.
The e-bikes are designed for daily use in city deliveries, offering lower operating costs, reduced maintenance, and fewer emissions. Riders will benefit from cost savings on fuel and upkeep, while customers may eventually see lower delivery fees as efficiencies improve. Spiro has provided favourable terms for Jumia’s logistics partners to adopt these green vehicles.
Urban impact:

For urban dwellers in Kampala, this means an eco-friendlier delivery ecosystem and potentially quicker, smoother last-mile drop-offs as bikes manoeuvre city traffic more easily.

The move supports Kampala’s broader ambition of cleaner urban transport and supports national e-mobility strategy goals.

It signals to local entrepreneurs and policy makers the viability of electric two-wheelers in African cities — which could open up rental, sharing or fleet-business opportunities in the urban context.
