FDC Unveils Nandala Mafabi as 2026 Presidential Candidate, Launches Manifesto for “Credible Leadership

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Party has unveiled Hon. Nandala Mafabi as its Presidential Aspirant for the 2026 General Elections. The unveiling took place during the FDC Party National Council Meeting held at the Party’s Headquarters in Najjanankumbi, along Entebbe Road in Wakiso District.

It should be remembered that Hon. Mafabi emerged as the FDC Party Flag Bearer after Party President Amuriat Patrick Oboi stepped aside in his favor. The extraordinary National Council meeting was convened to approve Mafabi’s Presidential Candidature and to officially launch the FDC Manifesto under the theme “Alternative and Credible Leadership for a Better Uganda,” as the party seeks to deliver credible leadership to Ugandans.

The Party Manifesto outlines the aspirations and programmes that the FDC Party will use as campaign promises to Ugandans. Hon. Jack Sabiiti, the National Party Chairman, urged members and supporters to identify candidates in all vacant elective positions across the country and to “paint the districts blue.” Sabiiti also emphasized FDC’s readiness to collaborate with other forces of change and clarified that the party is not in competition with other opposition political parties.

The manifesto primarily focuses on fixing Uganda’s infrastructure and economy, ensuring that all citizens have more money in their pockets. During the meeting, the National Council praised Mafabi’s candidature as a true reflection of credible leadership, highlighting that he meets the requisite qualifications to steer the nation’s leadership effectively.

Hon. Nandala Mafabi currently serves as Secretary General of the FDC Party, Member of Parliament for Budadiri West, and Chairperson of the Bugisu Cooperative Union. He is also a teacher, lawyer, economist, and successful businessman with a clean track record of performance.

Top FDC officials present at the meeting included Party President Amuriat Oboi, National Chairman Jack Sabiiti, Secretary General and Flag Bearer Mafabi Nandala, FDC Members of Parliament, and other party officials. Notably, for the first time in a series of recent high-profile FDC events, the Deputy President for Buganda and the Party’s Chief Whip in Parliament, Hon. Yusuf Nsibambi, was also in attendance.

The FDC National Council Meeting attracted members from across all districts of Uganda to deliberate on party positions, subsequently approving all district party flag bearers. Hon. Mafabi was formally handed instruments of power as a Presidential Aspirant, and it was reported that he collected his nomination forms from the National Electoral Commission through his personal assistant.

With this, FDC’s Mafabi joins a growing list of Presidential Aspirants vying to become President of Uganda. His predecessor and Party President, Amuriat Patrick Oboi, vowed to support Mafabi at any cost and called on party members, supporters, and the public to rally behind their candidate, Mafabi Nandala James, for President in the upcoming general elections.

In a show of solidarity and unity, Democratic Party Secretary General Gerald Seranda, representatives from JEMA, Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), and officials from the Inter-Party Dialogue on Democracy (IPOD) also attended the event.
