EACOP Pipeline Faces New Environmental Pushback

The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), stretching from Hoima to Tanzania’s port of Tanga, is once again under global scrutiny. Climate groups have reignited protests after fresh reports by environmental watchdogs alleged that pipeline expansion could endanger wetlands and displace thousands of residents.

The Ugandan government insists the project — expected to create 10,000 jobs — adheres to environmental standards. However, local NGOs argue that compensation and resettlement remain inadequate.

“The world is watching how Uganda balances development with environmental responsibility,” noted an analyst from Makerere University’s School of Economics.
