Cheptegei, Kiplimo Out as Uganda Names Athletics Team for Tokyo 2025
Uganda’s hopes at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo have dimmed after star athletes Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo were excluded from the official squad announced this week.
The Uganda Athletics Federation did not specify reasons, sparking speculation about injuries or training setbacks.
The team will instead rely on youngsters like Peruth Chemutai (steeplechase) and Halima Nakaayi (800m) to fly the flag.
“While we will miss our champions, we believe the new squad has the resilience to surprise the world,” said UAF president Dominic Otuchet.
