Ceasefire Talks in Sharm El-Sheikh Show Modest Progress

By Urban Gazette International Desk | Egypt

Diplomats describe “slow but tangible” movement as Israel and Hamas continue indirect talks brokered by the U.S., Qatar, and Turkey.

Three days into tense Gaza ceasefire negotiations, mediators say both sides have made “incremental progress” toward an end to the months-long conflict. Talks in Sharm El-Sheikh have centered on disarmament terms, troop withdrawals, and international monitoring mechanisms.

Turkey, one of the mediators, denounced Israel’s recent interception of a humanitarian flotilla as “piracy,” sparking fresh diplomatic strain even as talks continued.

A senior Egyptian diplomat described the mood as “serious but cautious,” adding, “Everyone wants to stop the bloodshed, but no one wants to lose face.”

Gaza ceasefire talks in Sharm El-Sheikh move slowly forward as mediators seek compromise between Israel and Hamas.
