Among Hails Kadaga After Landslide Win in NRM CEC Polls
Parliament Speaker Anita Annet Among has struck a conciliatory note toward her long-time political rival, Rebecca Kadaga, after defeating her in the hotly contested National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections.
Among was on Wednesday declared winner of the 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) position with an overwhelming 11,680 votes, while Kadaga polled just 902.
Taking to her official X handle shortly after the announcement, Among described the victory as a humbling moment and thanked party delegates for their trust.
“Dear delegates, I am truly grateful for your love and support, not just today but throughout the campaign trail. With deep humility, I accept this landslide victory,” she wrote.
In a message seen as an olive branch, Among praised Kadaga—her predecessor in the Speaker’s chair—for her service to the party and the nation.
“I want to express my gratitude to our mother, Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga, for running an excellent campaign and her significant contributions to the party and our country. We will rely on her for advice and guidance in the days ahead,” she said.
The Speaker also rallied members of the ruling party to close ranks ahead of the 2026 general elections, urging them to focus their energies on mobilising support for President Yoweri Museveni and other NRM flagbearers.
“Let us return to work, mobilise for our Party leader and flag bearers, and ensure a resounding victory for the mighty NRM. God bless you, and God bless our great NRMOnline,” she added.
Among’s emphatic win consolidates her position both within the party and Parliament, while her call for reconciliation appears aimed at healing rifts that have previously divided the NRM’s top leadership.
