Academic Excellence Celebrated at Bugema University’s 31st Graduation Ceremony in Luwero, Uganda
Bugema University on Sunday 9th. November 2025 held its 31st Graduation Ceremony, awarding degrees and diplomas to 1,779 graduates from various academic disciplines. The event, held at the university’s main campus in Luwero District, was attended by parents, government officials, religious leaders and academic stakeholders, with many others joining via live-stream.
The ceremony was celebrated under the institution’s motto, “Excellence in Service,” emphasizing the role of graduates in contributing to national development and ethical leadership.

Among the graduating class, 913 were female, reflecting continued progress in female participation in higher education. Additionally, 200 graduates attained First Class Honours, marking an upward trend in academic performance and competitiveness across faculties.
The overall best-performing student was Charles Karemera, who emerged with a GPA of 4.98 from the Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering programme. In second place was Valeria Mutamba with a GPA of 4.91 (Bachelor of Theology), followed by James Nasibu Maiga with a GPA of 4.90 (Bachelor of Theology). The fourth-best performer, Sandrine Uwitonze, achieved a GPA of 4.84 in the Bachelor of Nursing Science.
Speaking during the ceremony, Chancellor Pastor Moses Ndimukika Maka congratulated the graduates and urged them to uphold the institution’s values of service, responsibility and moral integrity.

“Education is not merely for personal advancement but for the betterment of society. Go into your professions as individuals committed to service, honesty and positive transformation,” he said.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Israel M. Kafeero encouraged graduates to continue learning and adapting, noting the rapid evolution of global job markets, emerging technologies and entrepreneurial opportunities.
“Your success will be determined not only by what you have learned here, but by your ability to innovate, collaborate and lead with integrity,” he said.
Graduates were drawn from the Faculties of Business, Education, Theology and Religious Studies, Science and Technology, Agriculture and Applied Sciences, Social Sciences, and Health Sciences. The university leadership emphasized that Bugema University remains committed to producing professionals grounded both in competence and ethical conduct.
Parents and guardians expressed gratitude toward the institution, many celebrating personal stories of perseverance amid academic, financial and personal challenges. Academic staff also commended the graduating class for adapting to digital learning transitions and for maintaining resilience throughout their education journey.
As the graduates step into employment, entrepreneurship and service fields, the university encouraged them to remain engaged in alumni networks and lifelong learning initiatives.
