President Museveni warns foreign powers against meddling as Uganda’s oil & industrial sectors expand

Kampala,Uganda.
Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has openly cautioned foreign actors against interference in Uganda’s affairs, asserting that external powers are threatened by the country’s growing industrial base and upcoming oil production. He made the remarks on 9 November 2025 in Mbale, while on a media talk show in the Bugisu region.
President Museveni added that youth employment should shift away from government jobs into production: agriculture, factories, ICT and services. A new industrial park was also announced for Busumbu (Mbale) to process vermiculite, which is used in satellite technology — signalling a strategic move into advanced processing.
Why it matters:
Foreign-policy rhetoric can affect investor perceptions, aid flows, diplomatic relations and security frameworks. Coupled with Uganda’s oil and industrial push, this signals a bid to assert independence and stake out a global-economic role — with implications for jobs, manufacturing and national strategy.
What to watch:

Whether foreign investors react adversely to the rhetoric or remain confident.

Progress on the Busumbu industrial park, actual jobs created and foreign partnerships.

Any signs of diplomatic or trade tensions following the warning.
