Government Releases UGX 11.25 B to Support Political Parties’ Dialogue Ahead of 2026

Kampala, Uganda
The Ministry of Finance, Planning & Economic Development has disbursed UGX 11.25 billion to the Inter‑Party Organisation for Dialogue (IPOD) to support political-party activities ahead of the 2026 national elections.
The funding is intended for dialogue initiatives among IPOD-member parties such as the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Democratic Party (DP), Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) and Justice Forum (JEEMA). The financing follows amendments to the Political Parties & Organisations Act, effectively limiting government-funding to IPOD-members. Critics, especially the National Unity Platform (NUP), say it marginalises non-participating parties.
Why it matters:

Funding of political-party dialogue ahead of elections affects political dynamics, fairness and pluralism.

This move may influence how inclusive the 2026 election season is and how opposition parties engage.

While the funding potentially strengthens dialogue and stability, concerns remain about equity, newer parties’ participation and long-term democratic health.
