Brazen daylight heist at the Louvre Museum: Priceless royal jewels stolen
On 19 October 2025, thieves orchestrated a daring daylight robbery at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Disguised as workers and using a basket lift mounted on a truck, they broke into the Galerie d’Apollon (which houses the French crown jewels) and made off with eight pieces of historic royal jewellery, valued at around US$100 + million (approx. €88 million).
The operation reportedly lasted only a few minutes; the museum reopened several days later, but the Galerie d’Apollon remains closed for investigation. Officials say the stolen items may be irrecoverable if the gems are dismantled, altered or smuggled.

Why it matters:
A major cultural theft: this is not just a financial crime, but a blow to heritage and global museum security.
The spectacle of the heist increases its viral potential and relevance for global audiences.
