Rwanda Positions Kigali as Africa’s New MICE Powerhouse

The Rise of Africa’s Cleanest and Smartest City

Rwanda’s capital, Kigali, continues its meteoric rise as one of Africa’s top MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions) destinations — rivaling Johannesburg, Nairobi, and Cape Town.

With its world-class infrastructure, security, and digital connectivity, Kigali hosted more than 120 international conferences in 2024–2025, including the Africa CEO Forum and the Women Deliver Summit.

“Kigali is now the continent’s benchmark for green, inclusive and efficient urban events,” said Clare Akamanzi, CEO of the Rwanda Development Board (RDB).

Smart Infrastructure Meets Hospitality

The Kigali Convention Centre, with its iconic dome, anchors a growing hospitality ecosystem — new hotels, co-working spaces, and smart mobility networks. RwandaAir’s expanding routes also make Kigali a natural hub for East and Central Africa.

Empowering Local Enterprise

Beyond infrastructure, RDB is emphasizing inclusive growth — ensuring conference tourism benefits local entrepreneurs, from event planners and caterers to artisans.

“Every international event here supports Rwandan jobs, innovation, and women-owned businesses,” added Akamanzi.

The Vision Ahead

With its Visit Rwanda brand gaining global traction through partnerships with Arsenal FC and Paris Saint-Germain, Rwanda is positioning itself not only as a travel destination but as Africa’s next global business gateway.
