U.S. Pulls Rubio from Paris Gaza Transition Meeting Amid Shutdown

By Urban Gazette Staff | Washington D.C.

The U.S. Secretary of State cancels attendance at a critical post-war Gaza meeting as Washington grapples with a government shutdown.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will no longer travel to Paris for a high-level summit on Gaza’s post-war transition, officials confirmed Tuesday.

The move follows the ongoing U.S. government shutdown, which has grounded multiple diplomatic missions and funding commitments.

European diplomats say American presence is crucial for legitimizing new governance frameworks in Gaza. “Without Washington’s seat at the table, momentum slows,” said a French Foreign Ministry source.

The U.S. will still send a lower-level delegation, but the optics signal a distracted Washington at a critical diplomatic moment.
