Nakawa, Uganda – The highly anticipated NCC 2025 Innovation Hub Expo came to a successful close today, marking the end of an inspiring two-day event at the Nakawa Institute of Communication and Technology (NICT). The Expo, which attracted technology enthusiasts, industry professionals, innovators, and students from across the country, showcased the immense potential of Uganda’s growing tech ecosystem and highlighted key advancements poised to shape the future of communication and technology.

The event, which ran from October 2nd to 3rd, 2025, served as a platform for local and international innovators to display their cutting-edge solutions, ranging from Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, and cybersecurity, to sustainable energy and IoT (Internet of Things) applications. Attendees were able to engage with the exhibits, network with experts, and witness live demonstrations of some of the most advanced technologies emerging in the region.

A Hub of Innovation and Collaboration

The Expo was designed to align with the government’s Digital Transformation Agenda and the vision of NCC 2025—a strategic initiative aimed at positioning Uganda as a regional leader in tech-driven development by the year 2025. The NICT, in collaboration with various partners, played a pivotal role in ensuring the event was a success, providing both a physical and intellectual space for participants to share ideas, forge new partnerships, and gain insights into the future of technology.

“This Expo is a milestone event for Uganda’s innovation ecosystem. The growth we are witnessing in tech sectors like AI, blockchain, and sustainable technology is truly remarkable, and it is crucial that we continue to build platforms like these to support local innovators,” said Dr. Patricia Byansi, Executive Director of NICT.

The event included a series of panel discussions, workshops, and keynote speeches from industry leaders, government officials, and prominent tech entrepreneurs, who emphasized the importance of education, collaboration, and investment in the tech sector. Keynote speaker, Mr. Samuel Kibuuka, a leading tech entrepreneur and founder of Tech Innovate Africa, called on the government and private sector to create more inclusive digital ecosystems, which would empower local innovators and entrepreneurs.

Innovation on Display

One of the most exciting aspects of the Expo was the start-up pavilion, where emerging tech companies had the opportunity to showcase their products and services to potential investors and customers. Some of the standout exhibits included:

Smart Agriculture Solutions: Using IoT and AI to improve crop yields, monitor soil health, and assist farmers in making data-driven decisions.

Blockchain for Secure Transactions: Platforms that are leveraging blockchain to ensure secure, transparent, and efficient financial transactions for Ugandans and across East Africa.

Cybersecurity Technologies: Solutions aimed at protecting Ugandan businesses and individuals from the increasing threats posed by cybercriminals in the region.

Sustainable Energy Solutions: Innovations in solar and renewable energy technologies that aim to solve Uganda’s energy challenges and drive the country toward a greener future.

The youth innovation competition, which was held as part of the Expo, received enthusiastic participation, with students from various universities showcasing projects that ranged from AI-powered health diagnostics to smart waste management systems. Arthur Tumwesigye, a student from Makerere University who won first place in the competition, expressed his excitement: “This is an amazing opportunity for young innovators like myself. I’m proud to be part of Uganda’s tech revolution, and I’m excited for what the future holds.”

Government’s Commitment to Digital Transformation

The event was also a reflection of the government’s ongoing efforts to bridge the digital divide in Uganda. During the closing ceremony, Hon. Chris Baryomusi, Uganda’s Minister for ICT and National Guidance, expressed the government’s commitment to supporting the growth of the tech sector. “The future of Uganda is digital. We are investing in infrastructure, policy frameworks, and education to ensure that every Ugandan has access to the tools and skills they need to succeed in the digital age,” he stated.

Minister Chris Baryomusi also announced plans to enhance the National ICT Hub, which will provide resources and mentorship to start-ups, as well as improve digital literacy across the country.

The Path Forward

While the NCC 2025 Innovation Hub Expo has concluded, its impact will continue to resonate throughout Uganda’s innovation ecosystem. The Expo provided a glimpse of the country’s potential to become a major player in Africa’s tech landscape, and it will undoubtedly inspire future generations of innovators.
