Mafabi Intensifies Campaign Trail in Busoga Amid Rising Tensions with Authorities
Busoga Region, Uganda
Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi today ramped up his campaign efforts in the Busoga region, engaging voters in Buvuma District and surrounding areas. The campaign trail comes with heightened political tensions, including a tense standoff with police officials attempting to reroute his campaign convoy in Iganga.
Engaging the Heart of Busoga: Community Talks and Policy Promises
Mafabi’s day began with a town hall meeting in Buvuma, where he addressed hundreds of residents on key issues such as land rights, infrastructural development, and economic empowerment.
“Busoga has suffered decades of neglect,” Mafabi said. “We need roads, schools, and healthcare facilities. But more than that, the people deserve respect for their land and resources.”
He condemned ongoing reports of land grabbing and government apathy, promising to institute robust land reform policies if elected president. Mafabi also stressed agricultural revitalization, focusing on coffee and fishery sectors that dominate the local economy.
“The future of Uganda depends on empowering our farmers and fishermen, ensuring they have access to markets and fair prices,” Mafabi added.

Police Standoff and Campaign Route Disruptions
The candidate’s convoy faced a significant hurdle in Iganga district, where police officers attempted to change his planned route without prior notice. Supporters gathered peacefully but with visible frustration, demanding respect for their democratic right to campaign freely.
Mafabi condemned what he called “political intimidation tactics,” calling for impartial security forces during the election period.
“We will not be deterred,” he assured his supporters. “This campaign is about giving voice to the voiceless and standing against injustice.
The candidate’s message has resonated particularly well with older voters and rural communities, who feel marginalized by current policies.
Looking Ahead
Mafabi’s Busoga campaign is expected to continue over the next week, with planned visits to Iganga, Jinja, and Mayuge districts. His team insists the focus remains on grassroots engagement and pushing for transparent governance reforms.
