NUP Rolls Out 2026 Presidential Campaign Program

The National Unity Platform (NUP) is set to officially launch its 2026 presidential campaign manifesto tomorrow in Jinja District. The highly anticipated event will mark the unveiling of the party’s policy agenda and campaign strategy.

Fundraising & Budget Allocation

NUP has outlined a detailed plan for financing and managing campaign resources:

  • Shs 1.5 billion allocated for branded T-shirts as part of visibility efforts.
  • Additional funds earmarked for publicity, transportation, logistics, facilitation of polling agents, and the manifesto launch event.
  • Each polling agent will receive Shs 40,000, with plans to deploy approximately 6,800 agents (two per polling station across about 3,400 stations).

Grassroots Mobilization & Vote Protection

The party is emphasizing community-level involvement to strengthen its presence and protect the vote:

  • A village volunteer initiative will be launched in Jinja, targeting 50 volunteers per village to mobilize voters and safeguard ballot integrity.
  • Volunteers will serve as monitors to guard against electoral malpractice.
  • Strong focus on mobilizing youth and strengthening local-level structures.

Electoral Strategy

To ensure oversight and maximize influence, NUP is planning to:

  • Deploy polling agents in all polling stations nationwide.
  • Legally challenge results in areas where irregularities are detected (as previously seen in Kawempe North).
  • Consolidate parliamentary strength by targeting critical regions — with a particular goal of securing 100 MPs from the Buganda region.

Core Campaign Themes & Messaging

While the full manifesto is yet to be unveiled, early positioning indicates the party will focus on:

  • Change and a new direction under the slogan “New Uganda Now”.
  • Justice, accountability, and respect for rights.
  • Fighting corruption, elitism, and misuse of state power.
  • Equitable development, with a focus on underserved regions.
  • Youth empowerment and inclusion.

Operational & Logistical Planning

  • The Jinja manifesto launch will serve as the official kick-off of NUP’s 2026 policy messaging.
  • The party plans to coordinate media, transport, and volunteer deployment across districts.
  • Notably, aspirants under NUP will not be required to pay nomination or expression-of-interest fees, a move aimed at leveling the playing field for all candidates.
