URSB Unveils Strategic Plan to Make Uganda a Top Business Hub
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has launched its Strategic Plan IV covering 2025/26-2029/30 aimed at transforming Uganda into a leading business hub in Africa. The plan builds on previous successes—digital tools like the Online Business Registration System (OBRS), improved legal reforms, and increased revenue collection. URSB says the new strategy will further simplify business registration, reduce bureaucracy, modernise laws, strengthen investor confidence, and support women and youth entrepreneurs. Officials pointed to prior gains under Strategic Plan III, including over 50% growth in non-tax revenue (UGX 107.12 billion), faster registration processes, and more transparency.
Why it matters:
A better business environment can help unlock investment, job creation, especially for informal sector transitioning to formal.
Efficient laws, clear registration & stronger institutions attract both local and foreign investors.
Focus on inclusion (youth, women, rural areas) could help reduce inequality and encourage entrepreneurship.
