Communities Complain of Health & Environmental Stress Along Huge Energy Project
Along Uganda’s largest lake region, communities living near a massive energy/construction site are reporting serious health problems, displacement, and lack of proper compensation.
Residents say dust, water contamination, noise, and inadequate resettlement are pushing them into illness and loss of livelihoods. Many feel their concerns are ignored or downplayed by authorities and companies running the project.
The project is part of Uganda’s ambitious energy and extraction push in oil and infrastructure, but its social costs are coming to the fore as locals demand greater accountability and fairer terms.
Why it matters: As Uganda accelerates its energy and resource development, the tension between national ambition and local rights is becoming increasingly visible. How the government and developers manage social grievances will either strengthen or erode public trust.
