Uganda Launches National Innovation Fund to Boost Tech Startups

The Ugandan government has unveiled a new initiative aimed at fostering growth in the country’s burgeoning tech industry. The National Innovation Fund (NIF) will provide financial support and mentorship to local tech startups, particularly those focused on solving critical challenges in agriculture, healthcare, and education.

The fund will be backed by both public and private sectors, with an initial investment of 150 billion Ugandan shillings ($40 million).

Minister for ICT, Dr. Frank Tumwebaze, announced the fund during the Uganda Tech Summit, emphasizing its role in turning Uganda into a regional tech hub.

The initiative is expected to provide grants, equity funding, and access to an extensive network of local and international investors.

What’s Next:

The first round of applications is expected to open in October 2025. Tech entrepreneurs across Uganda are already excited about the prospects of this new funding opportunity to bring their innovative ideas to life.
