Tragedy on Lake Kyoga as Boat Capsizes
Amolatar, Uganda — A routine journey on Lake Kyoga turned tragic when a passenger boat carrying more than 35 people capsized, leaving seven confirmed dead and dozens scrambling for survival. The vessel, overloaded and lacking safety gear, went down amid strong winds near Amolatar District.
Survivors recounted harrowing moments as the boat tilted and water rushed in. “I held onto a jerrycan for hours before rescue boats arrived,” said a young fisherman who lost two relatives in the accident. Local authorities reported that 29 people managed to swim to safety or cling to the boat and saved their lives.
