Presidential Nominations Moved Earlier as Electoral Commission Adjusts 2026 Roadmap
What Changed, The Electoral Commission (EC) announced that presidential nominations will now take place on Sept 23–24, 2025, instead of October as earlier planned.
Why the Adjustment EC cited the need to give itself enough time to finalize printing and distribution of ballot papers, harmonize campaign schedules, and prepare for a smooth January 2026 election.
Campaign Period Presidential campaigns will run from Oct 4, 2025 – Jan 12, 2026. This is about 100 days of nationwide campaigning.
Implications for Candidates Aspirants must consolidate signatures, funding, and messaging earlier than expected. May disadvantage newcomers or under-resourced campaigns. Established parties (NRM, FDC, NUP) may have a strategic advantage.
Public Readiness, Voter education, and voter register updates will need to be fast-tracked. EC must ensure transparency to avoid disputes.
