Conservative Activist Charlie Kirk Fatally Shot During Utah College Event

Orem, Utah — Charlie Kirk, 31, a well-known conservative activist and the founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA), was fatally shot on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at an outdoor speaking engagement on the campus of Utah Valley University (UVU).

The event, part of TPUSA’s “American Comeback Tour”, began around 12:10 p.m. local time. Kirk was speaking at a “Prove Me Wrong” booth to a crowd of approximately 3,000 attendees, when a single shot struck him in the neck.

Authorities say the shot appeared to have been fired from atop the Losee Student Success Center, located roughly 200 yards (about 180 metres) away from where Kirk was standing.

Kirk was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but was later pronounced dead. President Donald Trump confirmed Kirk’s passing and posted on Truth Social:

“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead… Charlie, we love you.”

Utah Governor Spencer Cox called the shooting a “political assassination” and expressed deep sorrow, saying:

“This is a dark day for our state. It’s a tragic day for our nation.”

The FBI, along with local and state law enforcement, is leading the investigation. Though a person of interest initially was reported in custody, officials later clarified that no suspect connected to the killing has yet been identified or charged.
