Uganda on High Alert After Ebola Outbreak in Neighboring DRC
Kampala, Sept 7, 2025 — The Ugandan Ministry of Health has announced heightened surveillance and emergency preparedness following confirmation of a new Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng said Uganda has activated screening points at major border crossings, particularly in Kasese and Bundibugyo districts, which share porous borders with eastern DRC.
“We are not taking any chances. Community health workers have been placed on alert, and we urge the public to remain calm but vigilant,” she stated.
Uganda has successfully contained previous Ebola outbreaks, but health experts caution that frequent cross-border trade and movement increase the risk of spread.
