Modi Skips UNGA, Sends Jaishankar in His Place
New Delhi — Prime Minister Narendra Modi has withdrawn from addressing the upcoming United Nations General Assembly debate later this month, the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed Saturday.
Instead, India will be represented by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who will deliver the keynote on India’s behalf. Analysts say Modi’s absence may reflect shifting diplomatic priorities, with speculation that he is focusing on domestic politics and upcoming state elections.
The decision marks a departure from India’s recent high-profile presence at global summits, though New Delhi insists its voice will remain strong at the UN.
