Museveni and Bobi Wine Under Fire Over Campaign Financing

Kampala — As Uganda inches closer to the 2026 general elections, political tensions are heating up around campaign financing practices. President Yoweri Museveni and opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, are facing renewed scrutiny following allegations that their campaign strategies involve voter inducement.

Observers argue that Uganda’s electoral landscape has long been plagued by questions of fairness, with critics accusing both camps of relying on patronage networks to sway voters. Electoral watchdogs and civil society groups have called on the Electoral Commission to step up monitoring, warning that unchecked voter “facilitation” could undermine democratic credibility.

With campaigns expected to intensify in the coming months, the debate over where campaign generosity ends and bribery begins has taken center stage. Both leaders have yet to issue detailed responses to the allegations.
