NRM Sets Course for 2026 Elections with Major Delegates Conference at Kololo

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has unveiled its strategic roadmap ahead of the 2026 general elections, beginning with a landmark National Delegates Conference scheduled for August 27โ€“28, 2025, at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala, Uganda.

According to NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong, the two-day conference will be a defining milestone in shaping the partyโ€™s internal structures and national election strategy. One of the key items on the agenda is the anticipated endorsement of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as party chairman and flag bearer.

โ€œThis is a strategic milestone in preparing for the next election cycle,โ€ Todwong stated, emphasizing the role of internal cohesion and mobilization.

Key Pre-Conference Activities:

  • August 20โ€“22: Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting
  • August 23: National Executive Council (NEC) session
  • August 25: Special elective conference for NRM Special Interest Groups

The main conference will bring together a wide range of delegates, including Members of Parliament, district chairpersons, flag bearers, and representatives from various party leaguesโ€”namely Youth, Women, Workers, Elders, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Entrepreneurs, and Veteransโ€”as well as diaspora officials. Up to 20 observers, personally nominated by President Museveni in his role as party chairman, will also be in attendance.

A significant agenda item will be the election of new members to the Central Executive Committee, expected to result in a leadership reshuffle aimed at revitalizing the partyโ€™s internal dynamics ahead of the national elections.

While the endorsement of President Museveni continues to be a subject of public discourse, the NRM maintains that the Kololo gathering is a vital platform to unify the party base, renew grassroots momentum, and align leadership structures.

As Uganda approaches a critical political season, the outcomes of the NRM National Delegates Conference may provide early indicators of the ruling partyโ€™s approach to 2026โ€”focusing on consolidation, continuity, and calculated internal restructuring.
